The London Eye: Experience Worth Sharing

london eye
The London Eye, a structure that defines the new age UK. The concept was born with the competition in UK that required its participants to submit a landmark for the new millennia for London.
The team of architectures and a husband wife duo, Julia Barfield and David Marks were the ones who designed this structure of a huge observation wheel when they took part I the competition. It is not that they won the said competition. Rather the couple kept on trying and putting efforts until they finally got the support of the British Airways to be the sponsor of the project.
Key Features
The London Eye looks like a giant wheel located at the South Bank within the Jubilee Gardens. The latest hotspot for tourists in London, the London Eye is 135 meters or 443 feet in height and has been given a very futuristic look.
The construction of the large observation wheel took almost two years and 3000 tonnes of concrete in its foundation itself. It is also true that the entire structure took 1700 tonnes of steel to be built.
The Capsule rim has the diameter of 122 meter or 400 feet, 25 meter or 82 feet tall and weighs a good 500 kg each. These structures of a size that was 200 times of the wheel of a bicycle were all brought in a train from France. There are 80 spokes that connect the spindle, all the way from Czech Republic, to the rim providing enough stability during the ride.
The Capsule
Each capsule that is built in the structure is especially designed so that it can give a 360° vision of London and also doesn’t miss out on the most famous landmarks of London which includes the Buckingham Palace, Houses of the Parliament and the St. Paul’s Cathedral. It is also challenged that if the day is clear, one can view the city stretching up to 25 miles from the giant observation wheel.
Each capsule is shaped like an egg where the steel rims are encasing in a glass box which enables the beautiful view. The London Eye can accommodate a maximum of 25 passengers at a time and each spin stretches for about a good 30 minutes so that nothing is missed out. The view at night is even more amazing.
Amazing UK’s Experience
An exhilarating experience definitely worth cherishing for a lifetime. The view from the London eye capsule on a clear day is unique especially the morning when the sun falls on the popular landmarks in a particular way that the entire city seems to be glistening in the sunbath. The view from the top makes it the extremely busy city look like an interesting intermission between the past and the present where one can see a clear contrast of the new buildings of London being dotted by the old historical places of historical interest.
