A great builder and MD of Gordon Hotels Ltd. had this idea to build a hotel that is perfect. They wanted up-to-date facilities, state-of-the-art interiors and modern technology. The duo bought a 19th century building called Dorchester House, got it demolished and what replaced it was a masterpiece. Sir Robert McAlpine, the builder, and Sir Frances Towle of Gordon Hotels successfully turned their vision into reality – they gave the world The Dorchester. And now when you walk down the halls of the hotel, you see someone famous indulging in opulence. The list of guests includes Tom Cruise, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Johnny Depp, Nichole Kidman, Will Ferrell, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Dorchester is all glamorous – from rooms to bars to restaurants, it screams beauty and charm and magnificence. Occupying a prestigious part of land, it overlooks the beautiful Hyde Park which is just a treat for the eyes of the guests. Architects William Curtis Green and Owen Williams designed it gorgeously; all 250 rooms and 49 suites have been designed meticulously adding glamor and luxury in each one but they are still very different from one another. That is what they call styling!
China Tang, The Promenade, The Grill and Alain Ducasse are the bars and restaurants that will keep your taste buds happy. There is even a spa which was recently renovated and wonderfully so. No doubting the fact that it deserves the 5 star status it boosts and it may be the reason why it is so popular with the media. A little trivia about the hotel – the hotel is mentioned in one of the books of Jeffrey Archer, A Prisoner of Birth. It also featured in X Factor in 2006 and a hotel room was modelled for 2001: A Space Odyssey after this hotel right in the heart of London.
