Attractions near the Olympic venues
Olympic event is the talk of this season not only in the host country United Kingdom, but also in other parts of the world. The bar of perfection has been raised after the spectacular performances at the opening and closing ceremonies and the perfect management at Beijing, China during the 2008. The games officially start on 27th July and continue till 12th August. The 200 hectare Olympic park in east London is ready. Majority of the events shall take place here. Sports like beach volleyball, cycling road races, Canoe Slalom, Rowing, football, etc shall take place at different locations across the country.
The Horses Guard Parade Ground lies in Whitehall close to Downing Street. It will showcase the all women beach volleyball competition. A temporary beach has already been built at this arena. Some spot attractions around this venue are the Tower of London, London Eye, Westminster abbey. The Cycling Road Races and time trial races shall be played at Brands Hatch, the motorsports venue of London. Hever Castle famous for the yew maze and beautiful gardens and Penhurst Castle, a manor house are the best attractions around this venue.
The world-class teams of Football shall compete with each other at different locations across the country. Women’s football, the first event of the Olympics shall be hosted by Millemmium Stadium, Cardiff. This Welsh capital is known for its regenerated waterfront, the futuristic Wales Millennium Centre, and the Cardiff Castle. The Castle Coch outside Cardiff must be visited to be amazed at the fantastical interiors like a fairy-tale. St James’s Park, England, Coventry Stadium in Central England and Hampden Park Stadium, Glasgow, Scotland shall host a total of 29 football matches. This is an opportunity of a life time as Glasgow boast of a fascinating museum of the game. Just five hours train journey from London, Glasgow has the best live music scenes, world-class shopping centers and the most elite club culture which shall never been seen in any other part of UK. The semi finals men’s and women’s football competition shall be held at Manchester’s Old Trafford stadium, Manchester United’s home ground.
Lee Valley White Water Center, Hertfordshire, England is the only venue that will be open to public and will host the Canoe Slalom competition. It is a beautiful park with facilities like horse riding, golfing, cycling, etc. This picnic spot is just 30 minutes from London by train. The experience at this venue is enhanced by the Hitchin Lavender Farm and Butterfly World that are located nearby.
Windsor a magnificent area near London is playing host to Rowing, Paralympic Rowing and Canoe Sprint events. The Eton College, Windsor Great park and Windsor Castle are a must visit. The south coast of England is hosting the Olympic Sailing events. Weymouth and Portland, Dorset has one of Britain’s most famous and striking geological rock formation, the ruins of Corfe Castle and fabulous beaches. The spectators and guest shall have myriad opportunities to enjoy their favourite sport and explore United Kingdom.
